"Voice" by LovelyP feat. Hatsune Miku
I rarely do the listening option, so it's nice to break up my routine and work on a difficult skill. Unfortunately, almost every Japanese song I listen to regularly uses one of the Vocaloid banks, which makes it hard to understand the lyrics. I'd like to make it my mission this week to look for music with real singers since their voices are clearer and more natural. But for today, I choose the song "Voice" by LovelyP.
Unlike the other Vocaloid songs I've posted about, I never listened to this one in middle school. I first heard it in the game Project DIVA Mega Mix, back when I worked night shift and relied on stuff like this to keep me awake on weekends. However, that version of the song used a different, less interesting music video.
I think this song is about missing a friend or loved one based on the English translation, but without subtitles, I'm able to glean bits and pieces. The phrase 「何もないと思っていた」means something along the lines of, "I thought there was nothing." 「このソングを聞こうか」means, "Will you listen to this song," but I'm not sure why the writer opted for "song" instead of 「歌」. My favorite line was, 【メッセージ伝えるよ「愛していた、いや、愛している】, because of how bittersweet it is. Other than that, mostly I pick up on random words like 「雪」、「寂しい」、and 「ありがとう」. The most frustrating part was understanding most of a line but missing key details. During the last half of the song, I could hear 「ありがとう言う前にごめんを。。。」, which means, "Saying 'thank you' before 'sorry...'" I really wish I could understand everything smoothly without stopping to consult a dictionary.
