Week 1 Phone Home
After the first real week of class, I feel optimistic about Japanese. Everyone is very polite and friendly, and they make progress quickly. I remember struggling to remember hiragana when I began to learn as a twelve year old, yet everyone picks it up almost as if it were nothing. I'm also pleased to see my handwriting is improving. An unfortunate consequence of self-study is that I'd developed many bad habits without a mentor to keep track of my progress, so it took until this year for me to realize I'd been writing some characters such as 「も」 out of order.
Me trying to make my kana look like the perfect examples.
It may seem strange that this blog is space-themed, and I would agree. My only reason for it is that I like space and science fiction. Cowboy Bebop is my favourite anime, I love the Phantasy Star series of video games, I've read Dune, and my boyfriend and I have been playing way too much BallisticNG as of late. It's a bit nerdy, but I am an English major. We aren't exactly known for high levels of sun exposure.
To take the sci fi theme a little further, here's a song I listen to occasionally. It's one of my favourites to play in Project Diva Mega Mix and while there's some complex, technical kanji, there's also a lot of onomatopoeia and common words in it.
あなたの心を惑わせる(ポンポン)

One of the best (and worst) things about learning a language in a class is that you get to recognize all those mistakes you've made lol.
